Detailed Information:
Realizing that we have a responsibility for the world in which future generations will live, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania created the McKeever Environmental Learning Center in 1974. Its primary purpose is to provide programs to assist citizens of all ages to become better stewards of the earth's resources. The McKeever Center is administered by Slippery Rock University on behalf of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Each year, over 5,000 students K-12 representing 70 school districts participate in the educational programs at the McKeever Center. They include Day Programs, Web of Life, Earthkeepers, Sunship Earth, Sunship III, Forest Ecology and Conservation School and summer programs. The McKeever Center works with over 50 student teachers each academic year. The center also offers workshops for teachers and programs for the general public. The McKeever Center complex includes 3 lodges (sleeps 150), dining hall, auditorium, office/classroom building, conference room, outdoor classrooms and an outdoor amphitheater. Over 4 1/2 miles of trails meander through 205 forested acres with one trail connecting McKeever with nearby Lake Wilhelm and Goddard State Park.
