The David Suzuki Foundation

Since 1990, the David Suzuki Foundation has worked to find ways for society to live in balance with the natural world that sustains us. Our climate change and clean energy program promotes sustainable solutions to our energy needs, from renewable sources like wind and solar power, to energy efficiency and improved public transportation.

Detailed Information:
Nature is our home. And just as we take care of our house, we also must take care of nature.

But nature takes care of us too. Nature cleans our air and water, makes the soil that grows our food and provides the resources to make all our material goods.

Unfortunately, with six billion of us now living under one roof, we are gradually eroding the services nature provides even though we depend on them for our quality of life and our future.

Forests and Wild Lands

Often called the lungs of the earth, forests help clean our air and regulate the climate. Forests filter our water, provide raw materials, recreation and inspiration. However, poor logging practices and planning threaten the future of our forests and wild lands. Staff biologists and researchers working on our forests program focus on promoting sustainable logging and land-use practices in British Columbia's rainforests and Canada's boreal forests.

Oceans and Sustainable Fishing

Without water, life on Earth is not possible. And when our water systems are unhealthy, human beings suffer. Oceans, seas, lakes and rivers are our lifelines, providing us with food, recreation and great beauty. But overfishing, pollution and habitat loss are weakening these aquatic ecosystems. Staff biologists and researchers working on our oceans program focus on habitat conservation, fisheries management and sustainable aquaculture to conserve our precious water resources for future generations.

Climate Change and Clean Energy

Meeting humanity's energy needs without dangerously interfering with the global climate system is one of the great challenges of the 21st century. For the sake of future generations, it is a challenge we must meet. Our climate change and clean energy program promotes sustainable solutions to our energy needs, from renewable sources like wind and solar power, to energy efficiency and improved public transportation. Adopting these solutions will help clean our air, improve our health, slow global warming and boost our economy.

Web of Life and Sustainable Living

Millions of people have embraced recycling which is an important step. But we need to do much more as individuals and as a society if we are to stop eroding the natural systems that sustain us. Through education and outreach, researchers with the web of life program encourage people to integrate nature into everyday decisions. As well, the team encourages individuals to get involved and use our collective power to urge business and political leaders to develop responsible policies that encourage environmental conservation.
