Oppose the Mon Fayette Toll Road

For decades, plans have been in the works for about 100 miles of new highways in Western Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has been leading the charge to build two new toll roads: the Mon-Fayette Expressway from Morgantown, West Virginia to the City of Pittsburgh and Monroeville and the Southern Beltway linking the Mon-Fayette to the Pittsburgh International Airport. A broad coalition of concerned citizens and local groups has been working to oppose these roads for a number of important reasons.

Detailed Information:
We have come together because:

*Our Region needs sound investment in our communities, not a $4 BILLION plus pork barrel project.

*Our Region needs a plan that connects our neighborhoods through an efficient network of roads and transit, not a project that bisects them with high-speed, limited access toll roads.

*Our Region needs real solutions to traffic congestion that provide commuters with numerous transportation choices, not a car-dependent plan that will stimulate more frequent and longer distance driving.

*Our Region needs an alternative that encourages reinvestment in our blighted communities, not empty promises of economic revitalization coupled with a scheme that paves the way to developing outlying green spaces.

In all these ways, we deserve a better plan. And we can have it.
